Православната църква “Света Богородица” в квартал Гиза, Кайро, 11 декември, 2009 г.- около 3 000 жители на квартала забелязват трептяща светлина. Никой не е сигурен откъде идват илюминациите, и бързо се разнася мълвата, че светлината е придобила формата на Светата Богородица, облечена в синя рокля, и стояща в небето между двата високи църковни кръста. Явяването продължава от 01:00 до 04:00 часа сутринта, и е регистрирано от камери и клетъчни телефони- хората правят клипове на явяването и ги разпространяват чрез Bluetooth и в Youtube.
За да премахне всякакво съмнение от възможността това да е умишлено организирано (с игра на светлини), официално изявление прави епископът на Гиза, абат Теодосий. Официалните представители на църквата не отричат събитието, докато Папа Шенуда изглежда мисли, че явяванията са благословии, въпреки че за тях е съобщено и от мюсюлмани, които впрочем също тачат Мария като уважавана религиозна фигура. Пред пресата той заявява, че само тези с истинска вяра ще могат да я видят.
От първото наблюдение през декември са съобщени над 10 явявания на Светата Богородица, понякога очевидци на различни места твърдят, че са я видели в едно и също време. Светлините в нощното небе могат да се видят на няколко километра от църквата. Повече от 200 000 души (християни и мюсюлмани) са свидетели на явяването от декември 2009 г. Огромни тълпи се събират около църквата, като не престават да пеят химни и молитви за Светата Богородица, а много хора прекарват вечерите около църквата.

Ел- Зейтун е място, близо до пирамидите, където е дошла Божията Майка с Йосиф и Иисус, когато бягат от Ирод.

My husband is working in a Christian hospital in Giza, Cairo. Since December there are discussions about something, happened in the same neighborhood- apparitions of the Virgin Mary. Seems every sector of Egyptian society to be discussing the vision.

No one was sure where the illumination was coming from, and word quickly spread that the light took the shape of the Virgin Mary wearing a blue gown and standing in the sky between the church’s two high crosses. The apparition lasted from 1:00 am until 4:00 am, and was registered by cameras and cell phones- people made videos of the apparitions and share them via Bluetooth and on YouTube.
To remove every doubt on the possibility that it has been be a matter of an organized festivity (with relative games of light), the Bishop of Giza, Anba Theodosius, came with
an official notice. Church officials did not deny the incident, while Pope Shenouda seems to think that the apparitions are a blessing, nothing that they were reported by Muslims as well, who also revere Mary as a respected religious figure. He told the press that only those with true faith would be able to see her.
Since the first sighting in December, apparitions of the Virgin Mary have been reported over 10 times; sometimes eyewitnesses in different places claimed seeing her at the same time. The lights in the night sky could be seen several kilometers away from the church. More than 200 000 (Christians and Muslims) have witnessed the December 2009 apparitions. The huge crowds gathered around the church don’t cease singing hymns and praises for the Holy Virgin, and a lot of people spent their evenings camping outside the church.
It’s believed by Christians in Egypt, that the Virgin Mary appears in times of crisis and unrest in order to support them.
“What is going on now is a result of people’s massive feeling of corruption, social injustice and the financial gap between various classes in Egypt”, said prominent Coptic scriptwriter Atef Beshay. “Some people are desperately seeking “aid” from anyone, even if this aid will only come from the Virgin Mary’s apparition.
This is the last of few apparitions of the Holy Virgin- her first visit was in the neighborhood of el- Zeitun, on the night of April 2, 1968, when two Muslims saw a woman walking the roof of the church across the street. Afraid she was going to jump, they ran out shouting at her not to take her life, summoning a crowd below. The Virgin Mary stayed for a month above Cairo, and it was broadcast by Egyptian TV, photographed by hundreds of professional photographers and even Egyptian President Gamal Abdel- Nasser went there to see it.
El-Zeitun is an area near pyramids, where the Mother of Jesus had come with Joseph and Jesus when they all fled from Herod.
The incident happened a few months after the country defeat at the hands of Israel and the latter’s occupation of the Sinai peninsula.
Next apparitions was on the eve of March 25, 1986, in the church of Saint Demiana, in Shoubra quarter of Cairo, and was declared a genuine miracle by the Coptic Church.
Apparitions were also witnessed a lot on the 1990s, a time when Islamic militancy reached a new height in Egypt. The decade witnessed some of the most violent attacks against Christians in Egypt, including the incidents in the village of el- Kosheh between 1997 and 2000, which resulted in the death of dozens of Muslims and Christians.
Also, in 2000 , an apparition of the Virgin Mary had be spotted above the Church of St. Mark in Assuit- to the rice of Islamic conservatism and the increase of signs of religiosity, and in turn also fundamentalism, among many Mislims.
"[The sightings] mean that there's deep pain among Christians here in Egypt and this pain has been materialized [figuratively in the apparitions]," explains Rafiq Habib, a Christian analyst and thinker, who notes that the discrimination currently felt by many Christians is perhaps the worst we’ve seen in Egypt in the past century. “The need for a miracle and reassurances reflects a fear of the future, and a fear for their lives”, says Habib.
The question of whether Virgin Mary’s apparitions are illusions or real remain unanswered.

well as you said it was recorder for national tv to be more especific in alqahera al youm an egyptian tv program, they showed the video and you can really see this image as you said and yeap you can really belive it was mariam as the ortodox church know her,because in mexico this virgen is called Fatima, and ok the thing is after the minute that the light stend you can see in that video how the light turn of, and was very clear it was a light behind the church in an other bulding, but no doubt it was man made they prove it very clear.
